Accept Your Partner or Open the Door

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Kadence Buchanan Having a relationship or being married is actually the same in relation to women’s expectations. Women want their partner to behave in a certain way and also expect from their partner to understand their point of view, agree and next time act without needing any guidance from their part. In most cases when men do not act as women would like, they get disappointed, hurt, and want to get out of the relationship as soon as possible, only to be chased after by a devoted man. But the relationship is not meant for women-or men in that matter-to expect the other person to do what the other one wants, but to do what one wants for oneself. A relationship is in fact the most perfect opportunity to show our true selves, like how good we are, and how we experience this relationship to its fullest. If you want to be a good wife, a super partner, a tolerant or a faithful lover, do not expect from your partner or husband to be exactly as you are. He should be his true self, and you should be able to judge how he acts toward you, how he talks to you and what does he offer in your relationship. Do not expect someone else to make you feel happy because you decided to allow him in your life. You should be focusing on making yourself happy in the relationship and not for the other party to behave as we dreamt. The simple reason why this strategy is doomed to fail is that our partner is not in our head. At the same time our thoughts, wants or desires do not stay constant; they change as long as we evolve and interact with other human beings. The misfortune is that while women concentrate all their effort and energy in extracting the reaction they are thinking their partner should be having, they forget to be the one they want to be. Busy as they are constructing plans and interpreting behavior patterns of their husband or lovers, women forget to make a schedule for themselves, and end up with an idealistic agenda that is going to collapse in front of their eyes. The saddest thing is that women, like you and me, actually make agenda’s for their partners. Like scheduling an important appointment, or better stated like constructing a picture for their partners to fit into, women wait for men to fulfill their expectations and be happy while playing their role. Unfortunately, in contemporary western type of societies both partners expect the same from each other and that is the main reason why things usually fall apart. We get it all wrong. In whatever situation we are experiencing, people should remember to stay true to themselves and check only their behavior and reactions. Examining what to do in a particular situation and where we would like to be in the future can give us a general framework within which we can present ourselves to our partners and be happy to have them along our side. It is not that our partner has to present us nothing. But whatever he or she wants to present, that is their own problem. Our problem should be just ourselves; always us. As experts state, any relationship, any situation is meant for us to learn, not for the other person to fit a role. The other person is only a catalyst. The rest should be only our problem. Walk That Weight Off - You Can Do It!

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Ron Gregory Yes you! Hey couch potato! OK, so I should talk, sorry. I only weighed in at a hefty 335 pounds a few years ago, my blood pressure was in orbit and I could barley make it up the ten steps to my bedroom without stopping and gasping for breath. If you have two legs and two feet and can walk, you can do what I did. I walked off 150 pounds (well, eating a bit less helped too). You can read my full story by clicking the link at the bottom of this article. The first hurdle to overcome is a desire and motivation to lose the weight. The second hurdle is to design a routine that works best for you and your schedule. Personally, I get up each morning and walk two miles (starting at around 4:30am), then do another two miles after dinner. I live in Southern California, so there are few days in the year where I cannot get out and walk. An indoor treadmill may be the answer for those of you who cannot possibly walk outside everyday because of weather. Buy a good pair of walking shoes. This is the most important piece of equipment you can invest in. You should also invest in a pedometer to count the number of steps you make each day. Everyone should strive to walk 10,000 steps each and every day to maintain good health. Try to walk at a brisk pace (3-4 miles per hour) and swing your arms. You want to elevate your heart and respiration rate for 20 or minutes to get the full aerobic affect. If you are extremely out of shape, start off slow and gradually build up your time and distance. If all you can walk at first is five minutes, then do it. It will not be long until you can walk several miles a day and the fat will melt off. Taylor your daily walking routine to fit you and stick with it for life. Eat healthy and supplement that with vitamins and minerals. And by all means, check with your doctor first. It will not be long until you are donating bags full of your old triple X size clothes to charity (trust me on this). By Gerald Crawford Lime - (Mexican and West Indian lime) Citrus aurantifolia Lime is used in alternative herbal treatments to treat ailments such as, bilious headaches, brightening dull hair and detoxifying the body. Although we believe in the therapeutic and healing properties of herbs, care must be taken in the use thereof, as they are powerful compounds. Botanical Classification: Family Rutaceae Genus and specie: Citrus aurantifolia Other names: Sour lime as well as Mexican or West Indian lime. Description of the herb lime: It is a small tree with light green, ovate leaves and white flowers, followed by ovoid green fruits with a sour pulp. Parts used: Leaves, fruit, peel and oil are used. Properties: It has cooling and astringent properties. Therapeutic uses: Internal use: Internally, with leaves infused as a herbal tea, it is helpful for bilious headaches. The fresh juice is also used to counter diarrhea. External use: In folklore lime is sometimes used externally to lighten the skin, but can be irritating and should be avoided. A few drops can be added to the final rinse water while washing hair to brighten otherwise dull hair. Aromatherapy and essential oil use: Lime essential oil will energize a tired mind, while banishing apathy and anxiety. It stimulates the digestive system, detoxifies the body, cools fevers and is useful in treating rheumatic pain. On the skin, it has an astringent action and helps to clear congested skin and stems bleeding from minor cuts. The therapeutic properties of lime oil are antiseptic, antiviral, astringent, aperitif, bactericidal, disinfectant, febrifuge, haemostatic, restorative and tonic. Safety precautions and warnings: Lime oil can cause phototoxicity if the skin is exposed to sunlight after application, but this effect is not found in oil obtained by cold expression. Nutrition - What To Drink

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Tracie Johanson In this series of articles we’re looking at nutrition. So far we’ve talked mainly about desserts, meat and veggies….which are the three components of most meals. As we wrap up our focus on ‘what to eat’, we’re going to examine what we should be drinking. If it’s true that “we are what we eat, from our heads to our feet” then we can also accurately claim that we are what we DRINK! Make no mistake about it…..IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE TO GET FAT BY SIMPLY CONSUMING TOO MANY FATTENING DRINKS! Even if we closely watch what we EAT, we can still do some severe damage to our scale if we don’t watch what we DRINK. Check out the facts on the following drinks: * Root Beer 12 oz. can = 180 calories * Starbucks Caramel Mocha Whip 16 oz. = 470 calories * Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Creme Whip 16 oz. = 500 calories * Coca-Cola 32 oz. (fast food size cup) = 310 calories * Orange Juice 10 oz. = 140 calories * PowerAde 21 oz. = 140 calories * Skim Milk 8 oz. = 80 calories * Water any size serving = 0 calories The issue many of us have is that we regularly consume massive quantities of regular soda. The fast food chains and convenience stores haven’t exactly helped us in this area, either……the ’small’ and ‘regular’ sizes have been removed from many menus only to be replaced with ‘SuperSize’ and ‘Big Gulp’ sizes. (Whatever happened to the regular ‘gulp’ size, anyway?) We’ve even seen some gas stations selling a super-tanker 44 oz. size soda, which packs at least 400 calories! The important thing to note is that, from the above list, only skim milk gives us the protein and calcium we need without attaching too many calories. Yes, the Starbucks Caramel Mocha Whip has 13 grams of protein, but at a cost of 470 calories (this is about 25% of the TOTAL calories a typical woman should have in one day!). Now in comparison let’s look at a double-serving of milk (16 oz.) so that it will be the same as the Starbucks serving size: that same amount of skim milk as 16 grams of protein (vs. 13 for the coffee) and only 160 calories! Calcium is one of the nutrients most likely to be lacking in the American diet. The calcium found in milk helps build and maintain strong bones and teeth. This mineral also plays an important role in nerve function, muscle contraction and blood clotting. Each 8-ounce glass of milk provides 300 mg or 30% of the Daily Value (or recommended intake). The vitamin D found in milk helps promote the absorption of calcium and enhances bone mineralization. Milk is one of the few dietary sources of vitamin D. Each 8-ounce serving of milk provides about 25% of the Daily Value. Lowfat and fat free milk have the same nutrients as whole milk with little or no fat. The American Heart Association endorses fat free and lowfat milk to reduce fat in your diet, but still get nutrients you need every day. About three-fourths of Americans (or about 75%) do not get enough calcium in their diets. Nine out of 10 women and 7 out of 10 men fall short of current calcium recommendations. Many studies suggest that fat free or lowfat milk, as part of a lowfat diet, may help reduce the risk of hypertension. Hypertension or high blood pressure afflicts one in four Americans and is the leading cause of heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association recommends fat free and lowfat milk. Chocolate milk is just as healthy of a drink as white milk. Lowfat and fat free chocolate milk packs in the same amount of calcium and nutrients as white milk, making it a great tasting way to grow strong, healthy bones. Drinking milk now helps prevent osteoporosis when you get older. Osteoporosis affects 28 million Americans and one in five of those affected is male. Milk helps build strong bones because it’s rich in calcium and vitamin D, which can double the amount of calcium absorbed by your body. You should drink more milk to help prevent osteoporosis Milk is a great nutrient package of 9 essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium, vitamins A, D and B12, protein, potassium, riboflavin, niacin (includes niacin equivalent) and phosphorus. Milk provides good nutrition for your body. The choice is clear: choose skim milk and water as your beverages of choice and watch the pounds drop off! At only about 13 cents per serving ($2 per gallon), milk makes an economical choice as well. We’ll see you at the dairy case…. Source: www.whymilk.com * Copyright 2005 Pick Up The Pace. What You Should Know About Dating Body Language

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

By Peter Portero A smile is usually friendly and inviting, and a knee-slapping belly laugh usually means your date is having fun. But there are other, more subtle types of body language. Knowing how to read them can help you figure out if your date is really having a good time. Classic flirtatious moves include touching, smiling, and leaning in close to the other person. We all want to be closer to the things we desire, so moving our bodies forward or casually resting our hand on someone’s arm denotes attraction and interest. If your date does any type of unconscious grooming, like running fingers through their hair or adjusting their clothing, chances are they’re trying to make sure they look as attractive as possible for you. If she comes back from the restroom with a fresh coat of lipstick, or he comes back wearing fresh cologne, it’s very likely your date wants to get to know you better. Signs of trouble include crossed arms, turning the body away, and eyes that look everywhere but at you. These are classic signs of someone who is uncomfortable and/or wants to be somewhere else. Be careful however, because some people wont look at you because they are nervous. The next time you want to let your date know you’re interested, remember to smile, casually touch their arm, lean in close, and give your appearance a little attention. If your date is paying attention, they’ll get the idea! Pickup Lines - Do They Really Work?

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Shane Rivers At some point in their lives, most women have had a pickup line used on them. At the same time, many men have at one time or another attempted to use such a phrase to break the ice with a member of the opposite sex. Of course, the big question is whether or not these lines actually work. Much to the chagrin of would-be Romeos around the world, the answer is usually a resounding “No.” Take, for example, a study conducted on 205 undergraduate students at Scotlands University of Edinburgh. Cheesy lines and flat-out sexual innuendo scored very low. Lines which suggested intelligence, wealth, and generosity did score higher, however. So what defines a cheesy pickup line or blatant sexual innuendo? Heres a short list. “Whats your sign?” “If I could rearrange the alphabet, Id put U and I together.” “F*ck me if Im wrong, but havent we met before?” “Your legs must be tired, because youve been running through my mind all night.” “Hey, babe, wanna get lucky?” “I miss my teddy bear. Would you sleep with me?” Yeah, hard to believe that someone using one of those lines would strike out. Then again, there are lots of other factors besides the quality of the line. If the woman in question has a sense of humor, she might chuckle at one of these and actually be willing to have a conversation. If not, you can expect a sneer and maybe even a few insults to come your way. Theres also the matter of personal appearance. Without a doubt, attractive men are far more likely to get a little slack when it comes to using bad pickup lines. Ugly guys, on the other hand, are flat out of luck. And there are a million other little factors. How much has she had to drink? Did she come to the club to find a one-night stand? Does she have a headache? Does she enjoy shooting guys down? Never underestimate how easily a persons quirks can derail even the most sincere attempts at flattery. The biggest mistake most men make is to hit on a woman before an attraction has been established. If you are perceived as trying too hard, then it may make you seem pushy and turn off the woman. Try to seem nonthreatening when you make your approach, then attempt to demonstrate a sense of humor or a genuine interest in her. Another method is to approach the person just as you are leaving. Introduce yourself, give them your phone number and then leave. They may not call you, but they may well remember you the next time you see them at the club. This may give you an opportunity to strike up a longer conversation. Again, no method is perfect. Certainly there are women who would feel uncomfortable or guilty about being approached by a man who she chose not to call. Its not an exact science. If you do decide to go with a pickup line, try to find something which will make her laugh or otherwise break the ice without possible offending her. Stay away from lines that are demeaning or have overtly sexual connotations. Here are few examples of good pickup lines: “I was wondering if you have a moment to spare for me to hit on you?” If this doesnt get her to smile, then you might as well move on to another woman. This line should demonstrate your sense of humor, acknowledge her good looks, and do so without seeming too forward. “Whats your name?” While hardly flashy or creative, this line is genuine and to the point. It doesnt put too much pressure on the woman (unless she cant remember her name), and it allows you to get your foot in the door. “So what havent you been told tonight?” This line admits that shes been getting hit on all night, but it also shows that youre interested in her without being like all the other guys. It doesnt insult her intelligence, and it also demonstrates your wit. Above all, try and pace yourself. Many women do not go to a club to find a sex partner for the evening. If you treat all of them as if they are, then you may seem pushy or offensive and waste a perfect opportunity. Give them some breathing room and allow some chemistry to develop between the two of you. In the long run, the slow and steady approach will be well worth it.
