Starting a Shade Garden…

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Gordon Goh The shade garden can be exploding with color and texture. No matter how much shade is in your landscape, the right flowers, plants, bushes and bulbs will grow in this area when given a chance. As there are various types of shade, you will need to choose the plants that are ‘right’ for the type of shade you have: partial, dense, full, or filtered shade. In starting a shade garden, one of the easiest shade gardens will be the filtered shade garden. What you need to do first is look at the trees or bushes that are making this area a filtered shade garden. Pruning off the lower branches on taller bushes and on the tree will allow additional light into your garden. Because you are planning a filtered shade garden, you do want some amount of sunlight in that garden below the tree. Thinning out the bottom saplings that are trying to grow from the tree is needed at this time to ensure they do not grow up in your garden. Underbrush and thorny bushes should be cut down and dug up at this time before starting your shade garden. Now you can work on the soil that is in the area that you want to create that new garden. Adding organic materials, more soil, compost, manure or other types of nutrients to the soil will prepare the fine garden bed that will hold your shade plants. When possible, do not disturb the roots of the tree that will be in or around the garden area. Cutting or disturbing the roots of a tree can cause damage or death to the tree over time. Working with the soil and adding the needed materials to make your garden about six inches deep is going to be the ultimate situation for your new plants. After planting your first shade plants in the garden continue to water them every few days until the roots begin to ‘take hold’ and support the plants. When placing your plants in the soil of your new garden, mulching around the plants will hold the water in the soil for your plants to thrive best. Shade Garden Plants Do you have a landscape that involves trees, shrubs, and bushes? When your landscape is filled with shade during certain times of the day, you can still have wonderful plants, flowers and color using the shade garden plants. You might find it most interesting that within the shade garden plants, there are additional types of shade needs. Shade gardening does give you various opportunities to change your landscape and to enhance the tree line of your yard. Shade gardens give many gardeners a more relaxing feel, as a place where you can stroll and be calming in the shade. The sun areas of your garden and landscape are lively and energetic. To discover more about the different shade areas of a garden, take a walk through this area, or walk through the woods. Taking a walk through the woods you will find that sunlight does still hit some areas and some soil is in the shade all the time. Filtered shade is an area where the sun will lightly hit. This indirect sunlight filters to the ground between leaves, branches, and other bushes. An example of where filtered shade is - this the soil at the bottom of a very tall tree that has branches that have been thinned out. The thinning of the tree allows sun to still fall on the ground below but in an indirect manner. Partially shaded areas of your garden are different from the filtered shade areas. The portions of your landscape or gardens that does get sun four or five hours a day, but then remains in the shade of a tree or house the remaining portion of the day is a partially shaded area. The plants that are sensitive to the high temperatures of the full sun in the afternoon are plants that you will grow in this area. Full shade areas of your garden are the areas of your garden that remain in the dark for most of the day. Sunlight may shine in this area of the landscape when trees loose their leaves or for less than an hour each day. Choice plants that mature in the spring or produce flowers in the fall are the plants that grow in this portion of your landscape. Dense shade is yet another area of your landscape where the sun never shines and the area never do receive partial shade. Dense shade areas of your landscape include those that are beside fences, houses, in the thick of the wooded area or similar type areas. Read the information that is available when purchasing plants that you want to place in shade gardens. Some shade plants still require some amount of sun as described above for the best results. Lunesta For Insomnia: A Guide To Compare Generic Lunesta ( Eszopiclone )

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ian_Mason] Ian Mason We all know that there’s no such thing as cheap Lunesta, but if youd like to save money without sacrificing quality, you may want to buy Eszopiclone instead. Eszopiclone is the generic version of Lunesta, the only prescription sleep aid approved for long term use. When compared with the other prescription sleep aids, Eszopiclone is the best buy if you’re looking for a way to just finally get a good night’s sleep without waking up drowsy and dysfunctional. When you begin taking Eszopiclone, you’ll enjoy another huge benefit: Unlike other sleep aids, Eszopiclone is the only one approved for long term use. That means you can enjoy months to years of better sleep, rather than just a few days. When looking for the sleep aid medication with the best overall value, Eszopiclone is an obvious choice. But what’s the best choice when it’s time to buy Eszopiclone online at an internet pharmacy? Many people just look for the lowest prices on their sleep medications, and they end up being ripped off. Some get the wrong pills, and some receive impure medication that doesn’t work. But others never even get their order in the mail. In many markets, such as the car market, the saying that “you get what you pay for” doesn’t really apply. But this saying is definitely true when we shop for prescription medications online. We have taken it upon ourselves to research every online pharmacy we can find, and in most cases, the news isn’t good. Many end up linking back one processing company, and only some of them are legitimate. In the interest of breathing some real life into the online pharmacy industry, we have compiled our research into a “best buys” website. The Bride Wore a Fountain: the Tribulations of Finding the Perfect Wedding Gown

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Lisa Koosis “I do not want to look like a fountain.” I remember saying something along those lines in response to a question from my grandmother. We were walking out of yet another bridal boutique, where I’d rummaged through rack after rack of gowns without finding even a single one to try on. I was frustrated, she was frustrated, and we were running out of bridal shops within the shopping area we’d chosen. It was a variation on a theme. “I don’t want to look like the wedding cake,” I’d say sometimes, or “I don’t plan on looking like a bleached Flamenco dancer.” In shop after shop I’d search through plastic-wrapped dresses glittering with beads, draped in ruffles, stiff with lace. Each was beautiful in its own way, and the brides-to-be who were trying them on looked like fairy princesses. But those long-trained, sweeping dresses weren’t for me. Let’s face it. I’d never been a traditional kind of girl. Why would I be a traditional bride? “We’ll try another store,” my grandmother would say, though we both knew that the outcome would be the same. After weeks of shopping, my mother said, “If you can’t find something, I’ll make you something. We can piece together features from different dress patterns. We’ll just have to get creative.” It was a thoughtful, generous offer, but a nerve-wracking one for both of us. Instead of looking at dresses, we’d be looking at patterns, and there was no guarantee that I’d find a pattern that I liked. More than that, though, it would be a huge amount of work for my mother and there’d be no guarantee that when it was done, it would be what I was looking for either. A picture on a page can potentially be worlds different from the actual real-world result. Beyond that, my mother and I were separated by a two-plus-hour drive, which was going to make fittings and the like difficult, especially with both of us working full time and me planning a wedding. “Well, we’ll figure it out when you come for a visit,” my mother said, and we left it at that. It was the week before I was to head up for a visit when she called me. “I found your wedding dress,” she said. “Sure you did,” I said, not believing her for a second. But sure enough, when I went for the visit, she took me to a local dress shop and showed me the dress. It was beautiful, and I was certain it would make me look like neither a wedding cake nor a fountain. My mother was relieved to have been saved from the monumental task of sewing a wedding dress. My grandmother was relieved at the promise of an end to dress shopping. And I’d venture to say that I was the most relieved of all. After all, I’d started to consider walking down the aisle in my favorite tie-dyed tee-shirt and jeans. But still, how on earth was I going to work this out? Buying a wedding dress from a store that was nowhere near my home was not going to be easy. The clerk there took pity on me. “The designer has a catalog,” she said. “Why don’t you bring the catalog to a formalwear store near where you live and ask if they can order it for you?” Truthfully, being young, such a thing had never occurred to me. She gave me the number to call for a catalog and when I got the catalog, sure enough, there was my dress. With the catalog in hand, my grandmother and I headed for the local bridal shop. “Can you order it?” I asked and held my breath, waiting to be laughed at. The woman smiled. “Of course.” Within weeks, I had my perfect wedding gown, at a bridal shop right around the corner from my home, where it was easy to schedule fittings into my work schedule. The truth of the matter is that some brides just aren’t traditional, and no matter how many racks of dresses a store displays, for many brides-to-be, it isn’t going to be easy to find that perfect bridal gown. Don’t be afraid to go a nontraditional path. If you aren’t finding what you want in the local boutiques, look for bridal gowns while you’re on vacation or visiting out-of-area relatives. Browse for bridal gowns on the internet. Find designers that you like and order their catalogs. In the meantime, find a reputable bridal shop nearby. Chances are, they’ll be willing and able to order a dress for you. Often, at your risk of losing a small deposit, they’ll order more than one so that you can see them in person and can try them on before making your final decision — particularly bridal outlets that can add the dress to their inventory if you decide not to take it. Any bride can have the dress of their dreams with a little creative thinking. I certainly did, and I’ll never forget my grandmother’s expression when I tried on my dress for the first time. “It’s just perfect,” my grandmother said. “Now all we need is to find a veil.” I raised my eyebrows and smiled. “Who said I’m wearing a veil?” Lisa is a proud non-traditionalist. Take My Commitment (to Your Biz) Quiz!

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Debbie LaChusa Starting and managing a successful small business takes time, energy, money and a HUGE commitment. But the payoff can also be HUGE, in terms of personal accomplishment, satisfaction, happiness, and M0NEY! So just how committed are you? Here’s 10 questions to help you find out: (1) Have you taken the time to create a business plan? A business plan ensures you have a well-thought-out plan for your business. It doesn’t have to be a big, formal document. But it should outline your budget, your goals, and how you plan to achieve those goals. This way you have focus. (2) Have you taken the time to create a marketing plan? If you don’t have a marketing plan chances are you’ll spend more money trying to get clients AND you’ll achieve fewer results. Taking the time to create a marketing plan, even if it’s only a one-page document, will enable you to be laser-focused so you’ll get better results. The 10stepmarketing System makes it easy to create one plan that serves as BOTH your business and marketing plans. To learn more visit www.10stepmarketing.com. (3) Have you committed enough financial resources to operate and market your business for at least one year? You have to invest in your business if you want it to succeed. It doesn’t have to be a big sum of money, but it’s got to be enough to accomplish the goals you’ve set in your business and marketing plans. (4) Are you willing to invest in yourself? To grow yourself and your business you must always be learning. Take seminars. Buy books and CDs. As one of my teachers Brian Tracy says, turn your car into a “University on Wheels.” Education to help you grow your business is a business expense and is tax deductible. Let Uncle Sam finance your growth! (5) Are you willing to spend time to learn how to better operate and market your business? If you don’t know everything you need to know to successfully operate and market your business (and who does?!?) commit the TIME to learn. Not only should you be willing to invest money in courses, books, CDs, coaches or whatever it takes, you have to be willing to spend the TIME. (6) Do you seek advice from those are already successfully doing what you’re trying to do? Have you identified other businesses or individuals who have already accomplished what you’re trying to accomplish? If not, find them. Learn as much as you can about their businesses. Model them. Get advice from them. I just paid a big chunk-of-change for a one-hour consultation with someone who has successfully done what I want to do. Was it worth the money to get her advice and recommendations? You bet! It’s definitely faster and easier than trying to figure it out on my own. (7) Do you have a team? If you’re still trying to do everything on your own, you should ask yourself how serious you are about building a business. For years, I worked alone. But I now realize I was making a living not building a business. If you’re serious about building a business, get the proper team in place to ensure your success. You should be spending your time doing what you do best, and find others to help you with everything else. (8) Have you created systems in your business? All successful businesses have systems in place that allow routine activities to be repeated over and over again, to ensure the same results. This also ensures your business does not rely solely on you for its success. (9) Do you track everything you do? The only way to truly know if what you’re doing is working, is to track. While it takes a bit more time and planning upfront, it can definitely save you time and money in the long run. Every time you make a change in how you run your business, track it so you know if that change is making your business more successful, or not. Track every marketing activity so you know what’s bringing you business and what’s not. (10) Are you willing to take a good, hard look at what you’re doing, and make changes if it’s not working? Sometimes we have so much time, money or energy invested in doing something a certain way we have a hard time changing our approach if it isn’t producing success. That would be admitting failure, right? WRONG! It would be a failure to NOT make a change! Being in business is a learning experience and one that requires constant fine-tuning. Try this formula: Plan, take action, evaluate, fine-tune. And repeat as often as necessary until you find what works for you. So, how’d you do? Don’t worry if you didn’t pass my commitment quiz. Your business is a work-in-progress. Your goal should be to work toward having all 10 of these pieces in place. If you do, your business will have a much greater chance of success AND you’ll be a whole lot happier! Cosmetics - How to Save Mega Money and Use All-Natural Beauty Products

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Stephen James It is no secret that women all over the world seek perfect skin and hair and will pay through the nose to get the latest products to help them achieve this. Whilst these products may or may not work, you can however make inexpensive, natural beauty and hair treatments from ingredients that you already have in your home which will perform just as well as (if not better than ) products you purchase. If you only have one natural beauty product taking a regular place in your cupboard, then take my advice and make it Olive Oil! It is an extremely versatile beauty product and can be used on just about every part of your body. Olive oil is also an excellent mascara remover and is much better for you and more effective than petroleum jelly based products and is highly beneficial to the skin around your eyes helping you to look naturally younger - and at over half the cost, now that’s good sense! I recommend that you use just a few drops of olive oil in warm water and make sure you apply your favorite lotion afterwards to lock in the moisture and complete the deal. Another good natural remedy is beeswax and olive oil melted and poured into a small tin. This mixture makes a wonderful lip balm that will keep your lips soft and smooth for a long time after (and again, it is made from all natural substances that are cheap to buy and are good for your body and skin at the same time).Adding just a few drops of olive oil to your bath water is simply the best skin softener you can imagine (just try it for yourself and see just how soft and moisturized your skin feels when you step out of the bath). And, if you’re feeling extra decadent, then add a few drops of essential oil will also give you a natural aromatherapy bath. Using this in conjunction with the baby oil works wonders believe me. Another problem women often complain about are dry feet. But not any more! Before bed, rub olive oil into your dry, cracked feet but do not rinse them. Then, put a nice, cozy pair of socks on and go to sleep and forget all about it - by the morning your feet will have absorbed the moisture and will be noticeably better. In fact, dry feet can be healed after just one night of this treatment! Just try it and you will see what I mean. Once out of the bath, the benefits of olive oil don’t stop there, because a very small amount of olive oil applied to dry hair will condition it and get rid of any frizz. Olive oil makes a great leave-in conditioner. For the men out there, olive oil also works as a shaving cream for men with sensitive skin. So take my word for it and don’t buy those expensive Sea Salt Scrubs, moisturisers, hair lotions and bath oils. Just make your own using natures natural ingredient olive oil. It really is not necessary to pay a lot of money for beauty treatment products. The things you have in your very own kitchen can often be the best beauty products available. Believe me, once you have tried these methods and realise how effective they are and how much money they will save you at the same time - you won’t go back, give it a go. The Difference Between Secured Loans and Unsecured Loans

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Lambie]Mark Lambie There are many reasons why people get loans. Perhaps they want to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will never come their way again. Or perhaps they need to fix up the house to get it ready to sell. Or perhaps they need to make a financial decision to consolidate their debts in order to reduce their monthly payments and lengthen the term to pay back their loans. Whatever the reason many people are looking to loans to help them reach their financial goals. There is nothing wrong with using loans to reach your financial goals. In fact, a loan can be an excellent tool to add to your financial portfolio because it can help you leverage your current position. But which loan is the right loan for you? There are basically two kinds of loans. Unsecured loans and secured loans are the two kinds of loans that you have available. Secured loans are loans in which you offer the lending institution some kind of guarantee that they will receive payment for the loan. The example of a guarantee might be some assets that you have, like your house or your car or stock certificates. Although you don’t have to turn them over to the lending institution in order to get the loan, having them in your possession assures the lending institution that if you are to default on your payment they would have something to seize and sell to recover their losses. On the other hand, an unsecured loan is a loan in which you simply use your credit rating to help you borrow money from the lending institution. People who do not have assets or do not want to provide assets as a guarantee may prefer this type of loan as an alternative. So which one is the better loan? While every case is different, you should consider what is important to you. For many people getting a good deal on a loan means getting a low interest rate, a high amount of available loan, and a long repayment period. If that describes you then you probably want to go with a secured loan. Why? It’s simple. Lending institutions determine the amounts they’re willing to lend, the interest rates they will be lending at, and how soon they want the money back based on the amount of risk they are taking to give up the money. While a person with a good credit rating may not be a big risk, the risk is still greater than with the person who has some assets to back up the loan if they are unable to pay with money. So it may be the right one for you. A secured loan is the right option for many people because it provides a greater amount of available lending cash, a lower interest rate, and a longer term to repay. Colonoscopy Advance: No More Excuses to Avoid Critical Screening

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tim_Anderson] Tim Anderson In a blow to overanxious men of all heights, widths and personality types, researchers conclude that Virtual Colonoscopy (VC) is as effective as the more conventional procedure. The study was directed by Dr. Perry Pickhardt, of the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, and evaluated over 1,100 adults. Colonoscopies are utilized to evaluate patients for colorectal cancer. The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates, for 2006, predict 148,610 new cases of colorectal cancer resulting in 55,170 deaths. While the death rate has been in decline for the past fifteen years, the sad truth is the majority of the deaths from colorectal cancer are preventable. That is, if appropriate diagnostic tests are performed. A little background information is in order. Standard colonoscopies allow doctors to examine the large intestine utilizing a colonoscope. This device is a thin, flexible tube that utilizes a fiber optic camera to inspect the colon. This procedure allows for the detection, removal and cauterization of polyps and, though somewhat uncomfortable, is relatively quick and extremely effective. The resistance to the procedure has little to do with its medical efficacy and everything to do with the discomfort and embarrassment. Preparation for a standard colonoscopy typically involves a lighter diet for a day or two prior to the procedure. No problem there. The rub comes with the next step. The day before the procedure the patient takes an industrial strength laxative and, fearing for their safety, warns his family to stay clear of all potential paths to the bathroom door. After a night spent in the bathroom, it’s off to the clinic, where the patient disrobes and offers up their posterior portions for the benefit of medical science. Why would there be any resistance to such a simple procedure? The Virtual Colonoscopy may resolve the reticence felt by those who would most benefit by this screening. Men over the age of fifty are at greatest risk and, often, are the least inclined to pick up the phone and schedule this procedure. But, as this procedure becomes more commonplace, that may change. The VC, though still requiring some preparation, is a much more tolerable procedure than its predecessor. A Virtual Colonoscopy is performed utilizing a standard imaging technique known as a CAT scan, computed tomography. CAT scans are typically used to visualize internal organs and structures, such as the brain, liver or spine, to assess the presence of tumors or the extent of injuries following a trauma. This same technology is now being utilized to visualize the colon. The preparation for the VC is similar to that with the standard procedure, requiring a laxative prior to testing. The procedure itself, however, is much more akin to an x-ray. The patient lies on their back on an exam table, a small tube is inserted in the rectum and air is pumped into the colon. Once the colon is inflated, allowing for better visualization, the exam table moves through the large scanning device and the images are captured. A second pass, with the patient lying on their stomach, is also required. The process takes about ten to twenty minutes and, since no sedation is required, the patient is free to resume normal activities immediately after. The CAT scan technology allows radiologists to assess computer-generated images of the patient’s colon. The images are very much like those seen during the standard procedure and, should the Virtual Colonoscopy detect an abnormality, a standard colonoscopy may be performed the same day. While still not a trip to the ice cream shop, the Virtual Colonoscopy reduces the complications of this critical assessment to a manageable level. Anxious men will be forced to look elsewhere for the application of their tried and true excuses. On the upside, their good health secured, they’ll have many more years to fine-tune their finagling for all things involving sports, couches and potatoes.
